The
Sisters
Our
Orphanage is administered by the Congregation
of Franciscan Sisters of Nossa Senhora
do Bom Conselho. Sister Maria Mabel de
Luna Melo is the Executive Director and
she has the help of Sisters Dalvanira,
Maria do Carmo, Rejane and Veronica. In
addition to the Sisters, our Orphanage
counts on the help of volunteers and collaborators,
among others.
The
Congregation is originally from the interior
of Pernambuco state, in northeast Brazil.
It was founded in 1853, by Frei Caetano
de Messina.
The
founding of the Congregation occurred
by the blowing of the Holy Spirit, which
lay seed upon the dry lands of Pernambuco,
in the old city of Papacaça, when
a young friar, Caetano de Messina, raised
a monument in name of youth education.
He confided the mission to the young ladies
Tereza de Jesus Vilela Teixeira, Natália
Gomes Brasileiro, Izabel Gomes Brasileiro
and Maria de Jesus Camello. They
were the first live stones that help build
this great piece of human work, at that
time in the city known as Papacaça,
today the city of Bom Conselho. |
